Seam Raises $5M led by Bessemer Venture Partners to Build the AI Interface for Customer Data

April 30, 2024

We founded Seam a year ago to advance how business teams use data through Artificial Intelligence.

Today, we are incredibly excited to announce that we've raised a $5M Seed round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Colle Capital, F7 Ventures, Ritual Capital, Umami Capital, and executives from Okta, Docker, Google, Rippling, Adobe, Outreach, GitLab, New Relic, Drata and others to accelerate this vision.

The Garden with High Walls

As the co-founders of Seam — Nick, Mikhiel, and José — we first met at Okta as the company scaled from $100 million to $1 billion in revenue. Hyper-growth meant more and more data in more and more disparate systems. It became increasingly complex to understand what was working and to deliver insights to the right people, with no single trusted source of truth.

That’s when we realized a company’s ability to leverage its customer data is highly constrained  by how much money they spend on technical staff and complex data infrastructure.

Customer data is siloed across dozens of sales, marketing, customer success, and finance applications. In order to do anything productive, organizations must set up data pipelines, manage transformations, build a data model, roll out a warehouse, and sync insights back to business systems or a visualization tool.

This infrastructure is broadly known as the “Modern Data Stack,” and while powerful, actually walls-off business users from information. Companies become dependent on data analysts and engineers to do everything from incorporating new data sources to running simple analyses.

The technology that promised to bring data democratization to businesses is actually doing the opposite. Our systems should tear walls down, not make them higher.

Introducing Seam

We created Seam directly in response to this lived frustration as business users trying to leverage data to drive growth.

With Seam, you get a simple chat interface to answer any question across all of your customer systems using natural language. Now business teams can access information, generate customer intelligence, and power automations in downstream tools, all on their own.

We achieve this by consolidating the end-to-end modern data stack into one easy-to-use tool.

Our vision is to become the trusted AI platform for customer information. The world is moving away from clicking around endlessly between applications, digging for information. The future looks like everyone, regardless of technical ability, freely using data to get the answers they need.

Supporting High-Growth Business Teams Everywhere

The early success of Seam is illustrated through the amazing teams that trust our platform. Every day, Seam is used to drive revenue at high growth companies like Redpanda, Netlify, and Apploi.

We're thrilled to support them, and excited to work with them to make Seam even more powerful.

Prior to Unify, OpenPhone leveraged tools like Apollo.io, Outreach and Clearbit Reveal but struggled to produce consistent outbound results with them.

“We were surprised with how easy it was to set Unify up given how powerful it is. We integrated Unify with Salesforce and our website in an hour and then launched our first playbook the same day.” said Makalie

Giancarlo and Makalie saw Unify as a platform to connect the dots between their existing tools, and take a more data-driven approach to outbound. They saw an opportunity to replace manual processes and save time for themselves and other revenue leaders on the team.
